'The intention of every committed voice teacher is to guide the student to find the freest, most beautiful sound and to develop that voice until it becomes consistently accessible and expressive...' (Singing With Your Whole Self by Samuel H Nelson & Elizabeth L Blades)
Through informed training tailored to suit your needs, I strive to help you uncover your truthful and desired sound in a way which increases both your self awareness and relationship with your instrument, as well as helping you to discover the ways in which you can communicate your story effectively.
It was during my performance career that my passion for theatre, storytelling and understanding the voice at a deeper level came to fruition. After graduating from Bath Spa University with a BA Honours degree in Musical Theatre I joined Aida Cruises for three consecutive contracts as a lead soloist performing in Rock, Pop, Musical Theatre and Jazz shows. I was also involved in a new Musical Theatre project, ‘Unfolding Tales’, where I played the female protagonist, and for which I recorded the concept album and performed the role for showcases in London’s West End.
With a passion for Musical Theatre (and understanding the competitive nature of the field), I am able to help you grow your confidence and increase your knowledge of this genre, as well as guide you through an extensive range of suitable repertoire and the preparation requirements for university and conservatoire auditions. As a qualified Vocal Health First Aider with Vocal Health Education I can help you to maintain a healthy and reliable instrument for your longevity.
I have a strong belief in the importance of storytelling and the need for creative escapism. My polyandrous relationships with voice, writing and musical theatre have often merged with opportunities to review for BritishTheatre.com and with the role as BAST Training's blogger. I have also completed a Comprehensive Creative Writing course with Oxford Open Learning's Writing School and studied with Book, Music and Lyrics (BML) as a Musical Theatre librettist. If my head isn't stuck in a vocal text it can often be found in a novel. As Phillip Pullman once said: 'After nourishment, shelter and companionship, stories are the thing we need most in the world,' and I am here to help you tell yours with context, truth and impact.
My goal is your goal and I can't wait to work with you!
